About the Primary care program at SMP

Our Primary Classes are carefully designed keeping correct age group in view

Our Primary 1 classroom continues to challenge the child academically and cognitively. Montessori encompasses a three-year cycle. In this class, your child will begin to see the great aspects of the cycle. They will be writing independently, mastering phonetic words, and beginning their math journey. Addition, subtraction, place value, and skip counting by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s will be introduced. Additionally, your child will begin to ask and answer questions, create their own stories, retell them, and tie their own shoes. At this stage your child will be fully independent and their minds are more open to thousands of possibilities in learning. The teachers will be there to help them every step of the way in their learning journey. The child will be able to put together 3-4 word sentences, be able to answer What, Where, & When question, recognize gender differences (Example He & She),know & recognize numbers 1-50 and be able to know & recognize letters along with their sounds of the whole Alphabet. They will also get worksheets and homework everyday as well, which will continue their learning in school and at home. They will also be able to master knowing number sequences & what’s missing (example 1,2,3,4,5,6 / 1 _ 3), know special relations. (example positioning the material properly numbers and counters), and will also be Introduced to Place Value. (Decimal tray)

The curriculum is also customized to each individual child’s learning and we go at the child’s pace and level of learning. We work with each child one on one to make sure that all of their needs are met. The teachers make sure that each individual child is exactly where they need to be cognitively, in order to go onto those next steps of learning.

Our Primary 2 classroom completes the three-year cycle. By the third year, the child is reading phonetic words and sight words, writing sentences, and using proper punctuation. Reading comprehension with questions is introduced. At this level the child will reach the highest potential mathematically. Double Digit addition, subtraction, fractions, place value, skip counting, and multiplication is introduced. In this class you can fully expect your child to be ready for Kindergarten. This is the biggest step your child will take because it will set them up for Kindergarten. At this point your child will understand 1500-2000 words and use 4-6 word sentences. Their grammar and language will be fluent which helps them to Understand if, because, why, when and help them to follow complex directions. In this prime spot of learning they will begin to have already mastered phonetic words, which we will then start to introduce sight words. Introducing sight will help them to develop putting together words to make sentences and eventually help them to start reading. The teacher will then go on with having the children form simple sentences independently with appropriate punctuation, leading to the understanding of basic parts of speech (Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives). Once the child has accomplished all of these things they will then go onto the next chapter will be Reading comprehension and eventually help them to independently read a story and answer basic questions.

They will also learn about different parts of the world along with culture and language. Montessori goes beyond the basics to teach a child reading, writing, math, geography, stem, language (such as sign language and Spanish), practical life, and sensorial skills. We believe in setting the child up for success and giving them the tools they need in order to succeed.
